KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Rising Hip Hop artiste, Five Steez, and New York City radio icon, DJ Ready Cee, have released the highly anticipated ‘Momentum: Volume Two’ mixtape for free download and streaming at http://www.djreadycee.com & iTunes. The 35-minute mix by DJ Ready Cee is also available as a single-track and as 17 separate tracks at the Five Steez Facebook Fan Page (http://www.facebook.com/fivesteez).

‘Volume One’ in the three-part series, released December 2010, clocked tens of thousands of downloads within months of its release.

“I took it back to the ‘golden era’ with the choice of instrumentals on the last one and now we’ve moved up in time. It’s the same concept but the energy is crazier plus there are new flows and new styles. I had to top the first one with this. That’s the whole idea of building momentum,” says the young Kingston-based rapper.

Despite widespread local and international awareness of an emerging Hip Hop scene in the land of Reggae, Five Steez has captured the attention of numerous tastemakers in Hip Hop including the legendary DJ Ready Cee.

“I’m telling you, whoever felt Volume One is gonna love Volume Two. It’s exactly the same vibe and sounds like a perfect continuation. I know it took a long while but I just had to wait for the right time,” says DJ Ready Cee.

Five Steez is one of Jamaica’s leading Hip Hop artistes gaining recognition on and off the island. He is currently working on his debut album entitled ‘War for Peace’, which will be released in 2012.

Toronto, ON — Fred E Fame and the 5th Artist Development Agency is teaming up with HipHopCanada to introduce the nation to Legends of the Fame: The Great Canadian Hip-Hop Card Collection.
The story behind The Great Canadian Hip-Hop Card Collection begins in Toronto on January 14th, 2011 with a sold out launch party at Suba Lounge. Over fifty acts performed at the debut release, leaving the club at full capacity with a lineup of people waiting to get in. Over a thousand packs of trading cards were distributed throughout the night, each bearing the face of award-winning DJ Law, whose Signature Card has been auctioned off for a total of $1000 with proceeds benefiting The Remix Project.

Aiming to create awareness of an industry that is alive and well despite a lack of wide-spread recognition, the project honours veterans who helped found the scene, rookies just entering it, and everyone in between. This effectively creates a venue for discussion among participants, and boosts recognition between artists, fans and other key players. Inspired by the layout of the traditional baseball card, the front of each card features an original portrait of the “player”, along with their name and home city. The back highlights artists’ accomplishments in a micro-bio, along with information regarding the “position”, “rookie year”, and genre of the player. The card includes crew affiliations and links to online portals such as YouTube and Twitter. The series aims to recognize rookies as they begin their ascent to widespread recognition, creating something of a cult collectible for hip-hop heads and diehard fans of the future. Project Manager Fred E Fame pledges his full attention to the project, promising “every major Canadian city will have their own pack of cards to represent, trade and collect!” Words by: Written by Kristen A.
Freedom Writers — ‘The Revolution will not be Televised’

On Friday May 27th 2011 the world lost one of the most critical, significant voices in recent history. Gill Scott Heron was not only a poet, musician and cultural pioneer, but he was an artistic freedom fighter and aspiring revolutionary. His words were the soundtrack of the push for transformative change and African liberation. The sound of his voice will forever stir up imagery within us of the active resistance and self- determination synonymous with the Liberation movement of the 60′s and 70′s.

In this Gil Scott Heron tribute, appropriately titled ‘The Revolution will not be Televised’, Freedom Writers Frankie Payne and Tona offer lyrical wisdom, flow and timing placed in between excerpts from Gil Scott Heron’s classic original version. The track is produced and Big Sproxx who also directed the video.

Our hearts and minds go out to the family and friends of our fallen hero, as we wish them peace while they mourn his passing. His epic impact on life and culture will not be forgotten.
