This week Thursday there is an event for which Lost Lyrics is a partner, a Film screening I am helping to organize in Jane-Finch. Its a documentary called “Black Hands: Trial of the Arsonist Slave” which “investigates slavery in Canada through the story of Marie-Josèphe Angélique, a Black slave accused of burning Montreal in 1734.”

This is just a reminder that this week Thursday August 23rd you are invited to join us at Yorkwoods Theatre for a Free Screening of “Black Hands: Trial of the Arsonist Slave” which is a 52 minute documentary that investigates slavery in Canada through the story of Marie-Josèphe Angélique, a Black slave accused of burning Montreal in 1734.This is an opportunity for us to learn about the history that has been kept out of our textbooks, ask deeper questions, learn and gather with community, around one of the many hidden narratives of Slavery in Canada.
Free Lunch will be Served after the film Compliments of MAMA HOOD Catering!
There will also be a Panel Discussion after the film to dig a bit deeper into the context of the film around Black History in Canada and also gain more insight into the Canadian Film Industry with the following panelists:
Alana Lowe is a filmmaker currently working on a documentary and educational resource (SFA Real TV) that re-traces the trade routes of the trans-atlantic slave trade, Stolen From Africa. http://www.sfarealtv.com/
