Hey Kristin! Thank you for your feedback. Understandably "Stolen From Africa" is seen as controversial name. SFA is a movement build on love, knowledge and community. To put things simply, If Stolen From Africa was a tree, then slavery would only be a branch of that tree. Africa is viewed as a poor continent but few take the time to investigate the amount of wealth and rich resources that have and are continuously being taken out. The SFA movement is about challenging the perspectives of how we look at Africa and the African Diaspora (People, culture, natural healing etc.. ) The spark that creates dialogue that normally would never have taken place. Humanity beings in Africa, the topics at hand are much deeper then race.

Thank you for your feedback! If you have any more question, send them out way!

Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('73757','logikal','
Hey Kristin!
I was really excited by the idea of 180 Change Street after seeing Samuel on Redemption Inc. But why oh why is the website for this initiative called "stolenfromafrica.com"? Are only those of African descent incarcerated and in need of help? As a white gal whose family has suffered the same hurt, this website name makes me feel like we are excluded from the initiative. The website name doesn't allude to making a 180 degree change in one's life, which is empowering. Rather, it refers to the atrocities committed during slavery, which is so disempowering. I wish you every success but please, don't forget, there is strength in numbers.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('73636','Kristin','I was really excited by the idea of 180 Change Street after seeing Samuel on Redemption Inc. But why oh why is the website for this initiative called \"stolenfromafrica.com\"? Are only those of African descent incarcerated and in need of help? As a white gal whose family has suffered the same hurt, this website name makes me feel like we are excluded from the initiative. The website name doesn\'t allude to making a 180 degree change in one\'s life, which is empowering.  Rather, it refers to the atrocities committed during slavery, which is so disempowering. I wish you every success but please, don\'t forget, there is strength in numbers.'); return false;">Quote

Went to the workshop and it was well worth it. Everyone there had the opportunity to take part in very useful discussion about topics that were beneficial to Toronto youth. I see 180 Change st. becoming a place where people are able to realize their potential because it provides them with a positive network of people who ambitious just as they are. In my opinion it was extremely helpful. Look out for the next work shop, it's definitely worth it .
Reply - Quote
