C.J Bio:
Fashion Designer , Curtis James, grew up in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), a region that cultivated passionate understanding of trendy designs and the essence of style. Inspired by an appreciation of individuality, combined with urban sensibilities with the love of classic preppy tradition, the Curtis James brand was created.
Sewing for over 19 years, a fashion program in High School is where “James” hands were put to the test on a sewing machine, realizing at that moment his passion, purpose and sense for fashion. Initially, James started making a name for himself by creating unique fresh designs for his peers along with hosting his apparel in High School talent shows.
The jump off started in 1993 where “James” pursued a short career at George Brown Collegiate Institute where many ideas in both fashion and business started to manifest. It was not long until “James” found himself, not only creating clothing, but also various designs of hats for a company known as 100 Miles.
James’ apparel was seen in most early Kardinal Offishal’s music videos. In September 1997, Kardinal Offishal, rocked a Curtis James Rugby shirt on the cover of Mic Check. From here on in, James’ popularity grew larger. From 1997-2001, James was involved in countless video and photo shoots. His clothing was featured in Ghetto Concept, Wio-K (Monolith), Tara Chase, Infinite, Marvel, just to name a few and continues to push his Canadian Brand. Another major highlight was in September 2005; where “James” had the pleasure of making a jacket for the Grammy Award winning artist Alicia Keys. Recent exposure of customized outfits for established Toronto rapper The Kid Famous and reggae artist Lindo P expose the creative limitless designs of “Curtis James”.
