Voodoo Souljahs LIVE in TORONTO TONIGHT! ( Reggae band from Columbia)

One of the most important reggae / dancehall groups in Colombia. The band began in 2001 as a soundsystem called KilimanJahro with a potent reggae dancehall hip hop style which continues today, but which has evolved to include percussion which evokes their African ancestry and the rituals of dance, struggle and emancipation which draw on the musical richness of Colombia’s pacific coast. These elements are present within the new sound of Colombian reggae.
Over time KilimanJahro took steps to present their music live, at the beginning with some live instruments over backing tracks until at the beginning of 205 thy became a completely live ban d took the name Voodoo SoulJahs. the name is a play on warods: ‘Voodoo’ forms part of the extensive religious beliefs of the Afro-Colobians that were demonised by the church during slavery, and for them represents the power to heal and invoke their ancestors through music. ‘Souljahs’ comes from soul and Jah is one of God’s many names, Souljahs also signifies souldiers of God, soldiers of Voodoo.
