Its that time again! Big up everyone involved in making this program a reality. They been through a lot in the past couple of years but still they rise! I remember a few years ago I think it was the summer of 2006, when a group of us gathered on the grass in a circle @ Christie Pitts park to discuss the idea and the vision of the Lost Lyrics program that Amanda Parris and Natasha Daniels had created. I recall arriving at the park a bit early only to see Natasha sprawled out on a park bench taking a quick nap with her bike by her side…… I don’t know why I wrote that lol random memory I guess. Anyways, now 3 years later that vision has been well manifested, now thats what I call sticking to your vision!! SFA TV has also done a lot of video documentation of the program including interviews with the youth and other events you can find stuff on youtube!

By now you must be asking yourself what is the Lost Lyrics program, here’s a lil something I jacked from the facebook group:

Lost Lyrics is a retrieval of Hip Hop’s finest. It is a space where young people (aged 11-16) use Hip Hop culture as a tool to break down the images, pressures, and issues they face living in Jane & Finch and Malvern. Together we create our own road-map, somewhere between the streets and the classroom, pushing young minds to engage, speak and rebel, but still graduate.

What we do . . .

Rhyme and Song writing

Critical media analysis

Poetry and Storytelling

Emceeing and Singing

Photography

Music video making

Problem solving and Conflict resolution

Visual arts
