Stolen From Africa Vol 1 : “Banning guns won’t stop gun violence changing mindsets will”
Toronto ON- 2007
Over the past year through out the city of Toronto there has been talk about the banning of guns. As if this is a tangible solution to put an end to all the blood shed that has been affecting our families, our communities our city. Knowing very well that this method only makes guns more profitable and we the community, ARE STILL on the receiving end of the suffering and grief. How can you ban something will exist as long as there is a market for it? You must change mindsets in order to end this vicious cycle. A personal conviction has to take place in the mind in order for one to feel that there are other methods of solving problems without the use of violence.
Although mainstream media would like to paint hip-hop culture as the root for violence within our community, this Mix CD is a collection of artist from various parts of the City of Toronto coming together for a common goal for a common purpose. Using Reggae, Soul, Spoken Word, R &B and Hip-Hop culture to uplift motivate and educate our communities about the issues that have been affecting us. We hope that the music on this CD will help provoke thought and encourage discussion surround these issues that are cancerous towards our families, our communities and our City.
On behalf of the Stolen From Africa Movement we would like to send our condolences to all the families that have lost loved ones due to gun violence. It takes village to raise a child, each one teach one.
